‘Lost for Words’ Film Interview on Nature, Language: Sheffield DocFest

It was recently announced that Godzilla Minus One writer and director Takashi Yamazaki is returning to direct another Godzilla movie for Toho.

Well, it turns out the filmmaker was offered a lot of other directing gigs following the success of his first Godzilla movie, and he turned them all down to take on this new Godzilla film project.

I mean, after the incredible job he did with the first movie, it’s no surprise to see Toho and Yamazaki team back up for another collaboration.

During an interview with Cinema Today in Japan, Yamazaki shared his excitement about his new project and said: “We’re going to be shooting a new Godzilla movie!”

“I’m here to tell you that I can’t announce any more about the new film. I’m really happy to see this excitement. I’m also happy that there are so many children here.

“Godzilla has gradually become something for adults, so the fact that there are more children as fans and that the next generation is growing is really good for Godzilla‘s future.”

The filmmaker continued: “Godzilla Minus One went a little too well, and a lot of hurdles have come up. Thinking about it, I feel like this might be the worst draw.

“I’ll do my best! I started receiving all kinds of great [film] offers…I can’t tell you what offers they were. I turned them down, crying tears of blood, because they were making a new Godzilla movie.”

Obviously, Yamazaki has a strong connection to Godzilla and he didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to make another Godzilla movie.

While I’m excited to see he’s jumping back into the world of Godzilla, I also can’t wait to see him do something else. I have no doubt that more offers will come his way after his next Godzilla movie.

‘Bring Them Down’ is probably one of the best films I’ve ever seen. A brutal and believable examination of old family grudges in rural communities. Superbly shot. Sharp and to the point. As beautiful a piece of art as it is a moral reminder of how anger can lose everyone the battle.
