Jimmy Kimmel tries not to cry in his latest tirade against Donald Trump:

“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard working immigrants… for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech.” pic.twitter.com/FDgIXejhsT

On Wednesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” episode, an emotional Kimmel addressed the audience, expressing his deep disappointment over the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, in which Trump defeated  Harris.

Kimmel opened his remarks by calling it a “terrible night” for many Americans, pausing several times to compose himself as he listed the groups he felt would be most affected by the election result.

He said it was especially difficult for women, children, thousands of hard-working immigrants, poor people, seniors, the middle class, the media, the justice system, and Ukraine.

As he continued, Kimmel reflected on how even Trump’s supporters might come to feel the impact of this election, though he believed they hadn’t fully realized it yet.

The comedian also found a moment to inject humor, referencing Melania Trump with a wry comment, saying it had likely been an “absolute disaster of a night” for her as well.

Kimmel wasn’t alone in addressing Trump’s return to office as other late-night hosts Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon each tackled the election news.

On “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Meyers hinted that Trump’s return to the White House might be indefinite, stating: “Well, Donald Trump has won the 2024 election and will be president again for four more years, or eight or 12 or whatever.”

On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Colbert opened with a solemn tone, addressing his audience directly.

“Hey there, how are you doing?” he asked. “If you watch this show regularly, I’m guessing you’re not doing great. Yeah, me neither.”

Colbert then tried to inject a little humor, commenting on his role as a comedian and showing TV clips of news coverage of Trump’s second term, complete with exaggerated reactions from foreign news outlets.

Meanwhile, on “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon tackled the news lightheartedly, saying, “America decided to get back with a crazy ex and elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States.”

He added, “No matter who you voted for, I think we can all agree that it’s going to be a rough Thanksgiving.”

Meanwhile, in her concession speech in Washington, D.C., Kamala Harris urged her supporters to accept Trump’s victory while encouraging them to continue to “never give up” their ideals.

Speaking to a crowd at Howard University, her alma mater, Harris said that “the outcome of this election is not what we wanted,” however, she emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.

The vice president declared passionately, “Hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright. As long as we never give up, and as long as we keep fighting.”

Harris also took time to thank her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as well as her campaign staff, supporters, and the many election officials and poll workers who made the election possible. The audience was visibly emotional, with many wiping away tears.

With a small smile, Harris acknowledged the mood, saying, “I know folks are experiencing a range of emotions right now. I get it. But we must respect the results of this election.”

On the other hand, President-elect Trump took the stage to address his supporters after securing more than 270 electoral votes.

Standing before an energized crowd just after 2:30 a.m., Trump declared, “This was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time. There’s never been anything like this in this country and maybe beyond. And now it’s going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal.”

He emphasized the challenges ahead: “We’re going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything about our country, and we’ve made history for a reason tonight. And the reason is going to be just that. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible.”

“Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you,” Trump said. “And with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”

He concluded by calling it a victory for the American people, one that would allow him to fulfill his vision to “make America great again.”
