Although many Americans fear regressive policies for women following Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential election win, he is now shocking the nation as he appoints his campaign manager Susie Wiles as the first-ever female White House Chief of Staff in United States history.

On Wednesday (November 6), former President Donald Trump was officially elected as the 47th president of the United States over Kamala Harris.
Late Thursday (November 7), new president-elect Donald Trump announced that Susie Wiles, a longtime GOP operative and Trump’s campaign manager, would be his White House Chief of Staff, making her the first-ever female to hold the position.

In a statement, Donald Trump said, “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns. Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected.”
Trump continued, “Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

According to CNN, a source told them that Wiles was considered the front-runner for the job but had a few reservations about the position, expressing to Trump that he needed to agree to some conditions before accepting the role. One of those conditions reportedly included her having more control over who could reach him in the Oval Office. The source said, “The clown car can’t come into the White House at will. And he agrees with her.”
Susie Wiles’ reported concerns arrived after Donald Trump’s first term in office revealed his four Chiefs of Staff struggled to prevent Trump’s informal advisers, family members, friends, and other associates from making their way inside the White House to meet with him. Trump’s longest-serving White House chief of staff was John Kelly. His other three included Reince Priebus, Mark Meadows, and Mick Mulvaney.

Wiles prefers to work behind the scenes, rather than on camera — which was clearly proven during Trump’s first address to the nation early Wednesday morning. He called her to the podium to speak, but she declined, preferring to keep out of the spotlight.
During the awkward moment at his victory celebration in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said, “Let me also express my tremendous appreciation for Susie [Wiles] and Chris [LaCivita], on the job you did. Susie, come. Susie likes to stay sort of in the back, let me tell you. The ice baby. We call her the ice baby. Susie likes to stay in the background. She’s not in the background.”
