MGM+ has released a trailer for its upcoming apocalyptic sci-fi thriller series Earth Abides. The series is based on the award-winning and influential science fiction novel by George R. Stewart.
The story is “a mix of dystopian horror and a literary exploration of loneliness. It remains a fresh, provocative – and all too relevant – story of apocalyptic pandemic, societal collapse, rebirth.”
In Earth Abides, “when a plague of unprecedented virulence sweeps the globe, the human race is all but wiped out. In the aftermath, as the great machine of civilization slowly and inexorably breaks down, only a few shattered survivors remain to struggle against the slide into extinction.”
The series stars Alexander Ludwig as Ish, along with Jessica Frances Dukes, Aaron Tveit, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, Elyse Levesque, Hilary McCormack, Luisa D’Oliveira, Birkett Turton, Jenna Berman.
The project comes from writer and producer Todd Komarnicki (Resistance, Perfect Stranger, Sully, The Professor and the Madman). Other writers include Karen Janszen, Evan Hart, Tony Spiridakis, and Kyle Stephen.
Amazon will debut the Earth Abides on MGM+ on December 1st, 2024.
