Wow! President-elect Donald Trump confirms that on the Day 1 of his presidency, he will declare a national emergency and utilize the U.S. military to conduct mass deportations.

Fears over Donald Trump’s plan to conduct mass deportations continue to materialize day by day, especially now that the former President has been re-elected. During his first presidency as No. 45, Donald Trump shared his plans to keep out migrants from entering the U.S. illegally. He even enacted plans to build a massive wall at the southern U.S.-Mexico border.

As No. 47, Donald Trump has vowed to continue building his wall and now confirms that on Day 1 of his presidency, he will declare a national emergency and utilize the U.S. military to carry out his campaign promise of mass deportations of migrants living in America without legal permission.

Early Monday morning (November 18), Donald Trump responded to a social media post from Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton, who claimed earlier this month that reports were surfacing about the incoming administration planning to declare a national emergency and use “military” assets to deport illegal migrants.

On the social media platform Truth Social, Fitton shared a post on November 8 that read, “GOOD NEWS: Reports are the incoming @RealDonaldTrump administration prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the [Joe] Biden invasion through a mass deportation program.” Ten days later, Trump ReTruthed Fitton’s comments and said, “TRUE!!!”

Before Tom Fitton’s Truth Social post, Donald Trump pledged to begin mass deportations as soon as he enters office. During the closing days of the 2024 presidential race, Trump shared his promise at his Madison Square Garden rally. He said, “On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out. I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”

Trump has already begun taking steps toward his promise by appointing several people with similar strict feelings about immigration to serve in key Cabinet positions. People like Former Acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan was named “Border Czar,” and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem was tapped to be Homeland Security Secretary, pending Senate confirmation.

Homan has already shared hard-hitting comments on what mass deportations could look like in America. He has already claimed that the nation would first concentrate on removing criminals and national security threats. When asked if officials would separate families, he said no, quipping that they could be deported together.

According to ABC News, an estimated 11 million unauthorized migrants are living in the U.S. without legal immigration status. Quoting estimates from the American Immigration Council, removing every last one could cost billions of dollars annually. Additionally, mass deportations could have a larger economic impact, creating a loss of tax revenue and labor shortages.

Reacting to Donald Trump’s confirmation of planning to declare a national emergency and utilize the U.S. military to conduct mass deportations on day 1 of his presidency is Alfonso Aguilar, a former Chief of the U.S. Office of Citizenship and the Director of Hispanic Engagement at the American Principles Project.

Aguilar told Fox News Digital, “The country is not going to be militarized. Neighborhoods with immigrants are not going to militarize.” He added, “There is a lot of fear-mongering from the left and many in the media. These are not going to be sweeps of neighborhoods, these are going to be targeted arrests… initially going after criminals. I would anticipate that the military would participate in a supportive capacity. You’re detaining people, you’re going to need to move these people and provide shelter.”

He also highlighted that federal law limits how Trump can utilize the U.S. military domestically, noting that ICE agents will likely lead these mass deportation efforts with a logistical helping hand from the military. For instance, the military would be placed at the border to appear as extra muscle while also being the eyes and ears for limited Border Patrol officers.

Aguilar added, “That’s historically how we use the military. Force projection to dissuade people from coming in, but their role is basically to help detect… helping move [migrants] to buses… all the logistical support. They’re not going to set loose the military in neighborhoods trying to detect illegal immigrants.” Aguilar also noted that ICE agents would be better utilized for workplace raids while U.S. military logistics could better serve in detaining and transporting migrants who’ve been arrested by ICE.
