Okay, Star Wars is not “ruined.” The classic movies are still fantastic. We’ll watch The Empire Strikes Back forever. BUT. There was a time when Star Wars felt like something bigger than a couple of sci-fi movies made by a dude from Modesto. When they felt like an epic saga of stories told across centuries.
That all changed with one single line of dialogue — just a handful of words, which arguably destroyed that illusion forever. And no, it wasn’t “Somehow, Palpatine returned.” That was a very silly line, but it wasn’t that bad.
