Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said she has “no regrets” about bringing forth her controversial YSL RICO case — which notably involved Atlanta rapper Young Thug, rapper Gunna, and many more — and that her office is planning on going after 5 remaining YSL defendants.

While speaking with Atlanta’s WSB-TV, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne that if she had to bring forth her YSL RICO (racketeering) case again, she would still do it and bring down the same YSL members tried during the 2-year case.

Willis said, “There were lives lost and their lives that matter, and as long as I’m the DA, no matter your socioeconomic status, or your race, your life is going to have value if you’re harmed in this community.” DA Fani Willis also said that she has “no regrets” about indicating the massive YSL collective.

She added, “Obviously when you try a case, you go back and you look at things and you always have a Monday morning quarterbacking analysis.”

However, Defense Attorney Doug Weinstein, one of the lawyers who represented Deamonte Kendrick, aka rapper Yak Gotti, felt otherwise and told WSB-TV, “I think that any unbiased observer, having watched this YSL case, can’t believe that this indictment of the alleged YSL gang was a good decision.”

Despite the controversial YSL RICO case, which saw a few defendants get off, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said she plans to move forward with the case against the five remaining YSL defendants. She said, “I’m not going to get into the details of that case. As you know, I have five defendants pending.”

Of those who received a not-guilty verdict on all charges was Deamonte Kendrick, aka Yak Gotti. However, Young Thug notably received a bit of a heavy sentence after copping a plea deal. Despite all of this, Willis said, “I think it gets lost on people that many people took responsibility for their parts in that case.”

Meanwhile, noting the drop in crime in Atlanta, Fulton County Gang Prosecution Chief Chris Sperry told the outlet, “Since June of 2022, we have had over 300 gang convictions ranging anywhere from criminal damage all the way up to a murder. We’ve had armed robberies, we’ve had shootings.”

While basing his theories on a Crime and Justice news post about major city police chiefs noting violent crime dropped last year in 69 cities, Weinstein, one of the lawyers who represented Yak Gotti, added, “The crime rate drop in Atlanta is totally consistent with the crime rate drop across the United States since 2022, since the fall of COVID. There’s plenty of cities where the crime rate has dropped more than Atlanta.” Sperry added, “We saw a 21% drop in homicides in Atlanta versus only 10.4% nationwide.”
