The House Ethics Committee is about to drop a major report on former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.
CNN, CBS News, and a few other outlets got their hands on the final drafts on Monday. The findings claim that this Republican standout and former attorney general hopeful blew tens of thousands on drugs and hookups, including with a 17-year-old high school student. “The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress,” the report reads.

As we previously reported, in November, Gaetz was in the spotlight after being picked as President-elect Donald Trump’s unexpected choice for attorney general. This came as a shock, especially considering he had only dabbled in law before diving into politics and was still under investigation by House Ethics. Gaetz also took legal action on Monday to stop the release of this report, arguing that since he resigned from Congress, he’s now a private citizen and shouldn’t be subject to that kind of scrutiny.
The much-anticipated report on Gaetz’s actions finally dropped after years of back-and-forth about the House investigation and whether the public would ever get a glimpse of the Ethics Committee’s findings. Throughout it all, Gaetz kept insisting he was innocent.

The Ethics Committee kicked off its investigation into Gaetz back in April 2021, looking into serious allegations of sexual misconduct, possible drug use, sharing inappropriate content on the House floor, misusing state ID records, funneling campaign cash for personal gain, and even accepting bribes or gifts that crossed the line.
Later on, the committee revealed they had put their investigation on ice at the request of the Department of Justice, which was running its own probe. But then in June 2023, word got out that the committee was revisiting the allegations against the controversial lawmaker after the Justice Department decided not to press charges. The investigation reportedly picked up steam in early 2024, with new witnesses being called to testify.
