The only history Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are making this season is of the ominous variety — and Rodgers is doing his best to have a sense of humor about it all.

During the Jets’ 40-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, December 29 — New York’s sixth defeat in seven games — Rodgers, 41, was sacked four times, becoming the most sacked quarterback in the history of the NFL.

Rodgers has now been sacked 568 times, surpassing Tom Brady’s mark of 565.

“Yeah, I got Tom on that,” Rodgers joked to reporters after the game.

Rodgers achieved the dubious distinction in his 247th NFL game. Brady, meanwhile, finished his career with 335 total NFL games under his belt.

The drubbing at the hands of the Bills on Sunday was the latest embarrassment in a string of them this season for the Jets. They dropped to 4-12 on the year after opening the season with Super Bowl aspirations.

Rodgers took out his frustrations during the game’s third quarter, when he was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty for pushing Bills cornerback Christian Benford to the ground after throwing his second interception of the afternoon.

“I don’t think I pushed him very hard,” Rodgers said after the game.

Ultimately, Rodgers said the game was indicative of how things have gone all year for the Jets.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s kind of like the season — it just got away from us,” he explained. “Too many games got away from us. This game got away from us. We were moving the ball well, and then we just hit a wall. And that’s been kind of the season, too.”

The Jets will close out the regular season on Sunday, January 5 against the Miami Dolphins. What happens after that is anybody’s guess. Rodgers has indicated he’d like to come back and play for the Jets next season, but no official decision has been made by the team.

ESPN reported on Monday, December 30, that the franchise will interview Rex Ryan and Ron Rivera for the Jets’ head coaching job this offseason. After the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh in October, Jeff Ulbrich has acted as the team’s interim coach.

The Jets have only won two games since the firing of Saleh, 45, on October 8.

During Aaron Rodgers’ rookie season with the Green Bay Packers, his relationship with teammate Brett Favre needed plenty of defrosting.  Rodgers, 41, was drafted 24th overall by the Packers in the 2005 NFL Draft, a surprising tumble for a player who was widely expected to be drafted inside the top 5. While the Packers front […]

During the CBS broadcast of Sunday’s game, play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz revealed what Rodgers said to him when asked last week about his future with the team.

“He looked us right in the eye and said, ‘I really don’t know. I’ll take some time,’” Nantz, 65, recalled.

Rodgers played just four snaps for the Jets during his first year with the team in 2023, suffering a season-ending Achilles injury on his first drive.
