Fast & Furious franchise co-stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have had a complex relationship over the years. There was an alleged feud between the two action stars dating back to the mid-2010s. It reportedly ended with Johnson’s appearance in the mid-credits scene of the 2023’s Fast X, the tenth main installment in the franchise. Recently, Diesel addressed Johnson during the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, once more shedding light on their complicated dynamic.
Vin Diesel playfully calls out Dwayne Johnson at the Golden Globe Awards
Vin Diesel took the stage to present the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement accolade to the musical feature Wicked at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards. At the start of his speech, he briefly stopped and addressed Johnson with “Hey, Dwayne.” The shot then immediately shifted to Johnson, sitting in the crowd and smiling while the room filled with the laughter of the audience.
The feud between the two mega celebrities became public in August 2016 when Johnson called his male co-stars in The Fate of the Furious “chicken s***” and “candy a****.” In a since-deleted Instagram Story, Johnson wrote, “My male co-stars however are a different story.” It further read, “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s*** to do anything about it anyway. Candy a****” (via HuffPost).
It was initially unclear whether Johnson was referring to any particular co-star, but it was later reported that the actor in question was Diesel. In a June 2021 interview with Men’s Health, Diesel mentioned that Johnson’s character in the franchise, Luke Hobbs, was “a tough character to embody.” Accordingly, his approach was to assist Johnson with “tough love.”
Two years later, Johnson announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Hobbs was returning to the Fast & Furious franchise and that he and Diesel had worked out their differences in the previous summer. “Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us,” the Red One actor wrote. “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”
