The upcoming Max medical drama series The Pitt has become the latest project to get its Los Angeles red carpet premiere canceled. A decision was made Tuesday night to scrap the event, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8, out of abundance of caution.

It comes as high winds continue to batter the Los Angeles area, triggering multiple wildfires that have destroyed homes and led to the evacuation of tens of thousands in Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica and neighborhoods around Pasadena. People from the entertainment industry are among those who have lost their homes, with a number of them currently under mandatory evacuation.

Amid the chaos and the destruction and with the windstorm expected to continue into Wednesday, the team behind The Pitt premiere made the call to cancel it. The event was to take place at the Pacific Design Center Wednesday night, with the cast, led by star/executive producer Noah Wyle, scheduled to attend along with executive producers John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill, who serves as showrunner.

Also on Tuesday night, Paramount cancelled their Wednesday night LA premiere for the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, while the SAG Awards called off their in-person nominations announcement, set for Wednesday morning. Earlier on Tuesday, Universal pulled the plug on their world premiere for the Blumhouse horror film Wolf Man and Amazon nixed their LA premiere for the Jennifer Lopez feature Unstoppable. Both events were slated to take place Tuesday night.

The Pitt is described as a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh. Tracey Ifeachor, Patrick Marron Ball Supriya Ganesh Fiona Dourif Taylor Dearden Isa Briones Gerran Howell Shabana Azeez and Katherine LaNasa also star.

The series, produced by Warner Bros. TV, premieres Jan. 9.
