EXCLUSIVE: Kyrie McAlpin (Birdie, Cheaper By The Dozen) has joined the cast of ABC‘s Will Trent for Season 3 in a recurring role. New episodes air on Tuesdays on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.

She will debut in tonight’s episode as Sunny, a smart and resourceful tween who finds herself in the uncommon position of being the daughter of a criminal who now finds herself in the care of the deputy director of the GBI.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent” series, Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodriguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now, he uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.

Season 3 also stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, with Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, and newcomer Gina Rodriguez as Marion Alba. Scott Foley is new this season in the role of Dr. Seth McDale, the confident and down-to-earth head of emergency medicine at a local hospital and Angie’s new romantic interest.

Executive producers include Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Howard Deutch, Ellen Marie Blum, and Ramón Rodriguez. Heldens and Thomsen also serve as showrunners. Will Trent is produced by 20th Television.

McAlpin most recently starred in the BET+ film Blackjack Christmas as Marsha Matthews and the leading role of Adeline Bellamy in the feature film Birdie, directed by Gregory Allen Williams. In 2022, she was nominated for the “Outstanding Younger Voice Performer in an Animated or Preschool Animated Program” at the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards for her role as Emma in the Apple TV+ series, Doug Unplugs. For her performance in Birdie, she won the Audience Award at the 2020 Deadcenter Film Festival.

Additional credits include Cheaper By The Dozen, Star Trek: Short Treks: The Girl Who Made the Stars, ABC’s American Housewife, Netflix’s Sneakerheads, Amazon’s Them: Covenant, 9-1-1 Lonestar on Hulu and The Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home.

McAlpin is represented by CESD in Los Angeles/New York, Neal Hamil Agency in Houston and Doss Talent.
