TikTok Thanks Donald Trump As It Restores Services In The US

The TikTok ban in the United States of America didn’t last long, as the social media platform revealed that it was in the process of restoring its services in the country.

TikTok’s statement came soon after President-elect Donald Trump asked companies not to let the app stay dark.

Trump also expressed plans to save TikTok and “keep it in good hands” through a joint venture with the app’s “current owners and/or new owners.”

On Sunday, TikTok shared a statement on X via its TikTok Policy page, revealing that it was restoring services in the United States after a recent ban.

The statement began, “In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service.”

The social media platform also thanked President-elect Donald Trump for his role in making service restoration possible.

The statement continued, “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”

TikTok also expressed its desire to work with Trump on a sustainable solution that will allow it to remain in the US.

The statement concluded, “It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”

TikTok’s statement came over two hours after Donald Trump shared his plans to extend the time before the ban on the app takes effect.

The incoming president wrote via the Truth Social app, “I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security.”

Trump added, “The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped TikTok from going dark before my order.”

The 78-year-old also expressed his desire for Americans to watch his presidential inauguration on Monday. He said, “Americans deserve to see our exciting inauguration on Monday, as well as other events and conversations.”

Trump also shared his plans for TikTok in his post, revealing that he wanted a joint venture between the US government and the social media app.

He wrote, “I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up.”

Trump added, “Without U.S. approval, there is no TikTok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars – maybe trillions.”

The soon-to-be-inaugurated President also explained what his proposed structure for TikTok will be.

He wrote, “Therefore, my initial thought is a joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners whereby the U.S. gets a 50% ownership in a joint venture set up between the U.S. and whichever purchase we so choose.”

Several X users reacted to TikTok’s statement about restoring its services in the United States after a short-lived ban.

One person shared a hilarious meme from the cartoon, “Sponge Bob Square Pants,” referencing how short the ban was. The post’s caption read, “The TikTok ban be like.”

Another X user thanked Trump for his leadership, which led to TikTok’s service restoration.

They wrote, “Great to see TikTok back online thanks to President Trump’s leadership. This is a big win for free speech and a major blow to Big Tech censorship. Thanks to Trump for standing up to the elites and giving Americans their voices back.”

However, some people felt that the quick restoration of TikTok’s services after its ban was a ploy to make Trump look good.

One such person wrote, “It’s been less than 24 hours and you’re already coming back? Y’all have no shame. All of this has just been a wasted attempt to try to make Trump look better.”

On Friday, TikTok’s future in the US looked bleak after the Supreme Court upheld the federal law that effectively banned the app.

The ban took effect on Sunday, with the app’s users in the US not able to access it.

After the Supreme Court’s decision, Trump, who previously asked them to delay the law’s implementation, vowed to “save” TikTok.

With the app now being restored, the incoming president seems to have come good on his promise.
