Long-time fans were shocked to learn that not only would David and Gillian be attending and sat at the same table, but they would be presenting the award, their reunion coming months after Anderson (56) sat down with Duchovny (64) on his podcast Fail Better to discuss their partnership, their friendship, and their career mistakes. The two have often had a tumultuous relationship in the past, stemming from issues when they worked on the hit series The X-Files in the early 1990s but have since re-established a friendly relationship with one another.

Gillian walked the carpet in a stunning Carolina Herrera gown before joining David at their table alongside names like Jeremy Strong and Adrien Brody. Both Anderson and Duchovny are familiar with the SAG awards, with them both having been nominated for awards and where Anderson won both Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for both The X-Files and Netflix’s The Crown.

They walked arm-in-arm together on stage where they performed a hilarious sketch about their chemistry, much to the delight of the other actors in the room, the banter imitating that of their X-Files characters, Mulder and Scully. “It’s great to see you Gillian, you look, uh – ” Duchovny started, before Anderson cut him off. “Younger than you last saw me when we shot 218 episodes?” she asked. Their riff continued for just over a minute before announcing the nominees.
Fans of Mulder and Scully coined the term “shipping” in the 90s, a term still used in fandom culture to this day, and Gillian and David are no strangers to receiving awe and admiration from those around them. Not a day has gone by since the X-Files revival ended in 2018 that fans haven’t asked to see more of the couple on screen. Duchovny rightfully said at the 22nd Annual G’Day USA Arts Gala, “We’re going to present an award. It feels good…I’m sure there will be more chatter after Sunday.”

That onscreen chemistry translated onto television screens and 32 years later, the X-Files is still garnering attention from new viewers who say their connection is unlike any other they have seen before. While Duchovny did not walk the carpet, he was seen chatting away with names like Harrison Ford and Coleman Domingo and Gillian shared photos and videos of the two preparing for their presentation to her social media.
