Carl Cox’s return to Detroit’s Movement Festival has been delayed by one year, he announced this week.

The British techno legend was slated to return for the first time in eight years with a special “Hybrid Live” performance. To the dismay of fans, he revealed that scheduling conflicts preclude him from delivering his hotly anticipated performance, which has now been postponed to 2026.

“I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but I promise to make it worth the wait,” Cox said in a statement. “When I return, I’ll bring my full live show experience, and it’s going to be epic! Thank you for your understanding and continued support. See you all in 2026 for an unforgettable show!”

While the postponement of Cox’s return to Hart Plaza is disappointing, Movement’s organizers have recruited a hometown legend to headline in his place. Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills will instead close out Movement’s main stage on the first night of the festival.

In addition to Mills, Movement 2025 will feature performances by Charlotte de Witte, Chase & Status, Boys Noize, Nina Kraviz, John Summit, Sara Landry, Jaime xx, Claude VonStroke and many more. You can find the full lineup here.

Movement returns to the birthplace of techno May 24-26, 2025. Single-day and weekend tickets are on sale now here.
