Jurnee Smollett was married to Josiah Bell for almost a decade before she filed for divorce in 2020. Despite having finalized their divorce in 2021, the two still have unfinished business, legally that is.
Bell received nearly $1 million of a payout at the end of their marriage. On March 5, the Neighborhood Talk revealed that he’s now coming for her bank account once again. Bell is going after 50% of Jurnee Smollett’s retirement earnings during the 2010 to 2019 years of their marriage. The retirement funds he is coming after includes her 401k and her Screen Actors Guild pension; the latter, she’s been growing since she was a child actress.
Smollett and Bell got married and divorced in California, which is a state that follows a 50/50 law. Their community property law requires an equal split of assets accrued during the marriage.

The Birds of Prey actress shares her son Hunter with the musician, whom they welcomed together in 2016.
She once opened up about her marriage in 2013 to the Hollywood Reporter, explaining why it worked so well at the time.
“We were best friends before we started even dating,” Smollett said, “so we had this really great foundation. I think one of the challenging things about any lasting relationship is that you have to be so vulnerable. I think as human beings we try to hide our flaws and try to present this perfect person, this person we wish we were to our spouse when that causes so many troubles.”
Despite the troubles she is going through in her personal life, Smollett is still putting in work on screen. According to her IMDB page, her upcoming series Firebug is in the post production stage. The project is set to premiere this year.
