Kathy Bates shares how she felt after weight loss
Kathy Bates says her weight loss has significantly improved her ability to work. The Oscar-winning actress, who previously shared that she lost 100 lbs., recently discussed the impact of her health journey. Speaking at the Matlock screening at PaleyFest on March 23, the 76-year-old actress explained how different she feels now compared to past projects.
Reflecting on her time filming Harry’s Law, Bates recalled struggling with her weight, often needing to sit down between takes. She admitted it was difficult and now regrets the toll it took on her body. The actress added, “But now that I’ve been able to get really healthy, I can move, I can breathe, I can have fun, I’m not sore. I get tired and realize I’m like an old lady, but even the kids get tired. But it’s been a magnificent experience.” (via PEOPLE)
Now, as Bates takes on her leading role in the Matlock reboot, she feels stronger than ever. She said, “Physically, I’m capable of doing this show. I don’t have to sit down. I can stand up all day long and walk and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn’t before.”
In October 2024, Bates detailed her weight loss journey, explaining that she lost 80 lbs. through lifestyle changes over several years before dropping an additional 20 lbs. with Ozempic. She acknowledged that the process wasn’t easy, especially during the pandemic. Her decision to prioritize her well-being came after a 2017 type 2 diabetes diagnosis, which she said served as a wake-up call.
