Family members are mourning the tragic loss of Dr. Cameisha Clark, a dean at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology. Dr. Clark was fatally shot on May 2 while she worked in her office in Inglewood, California.

Details Emerge In Tragic Passing Of Spartan College Dean On Campus Grounds
PEOPLE reports that prosecutors allege former security guard Jesse Figueroa allegedly shot and killed Dr. Cameisha Clark. Per Fox 5 Atlanta, Figueroa allegedly returned to Spartan College and opened fire on Dr. Clark and her assistant.
Authorities have not identified a clear motive at this time. Officers say the suspect allegedly fled the scene, but they located him several hours later and took him into custody.
Details On The Alleged Suspected Security Guard & What’s Next For Him?
According to KTLA, Spartan College hired Jesse Figueroa as a security guard. Inglewood Mayor James Butts stated that Figueroa reportedly worked at technical college for only two months.
PEOPLE notes that prosecutors charged Figueroa with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and multiple felony counts for firearm possession. These charges could result in a life sentence in state prison. Additionally, District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman says Figureroa also faces a charge for using a handgun to cause great bodily injury or death, which reportedly carries an additional possible sentence of 25 years to life.
Per KTLA, authorities set Jesse Figueroa’s bail at $5 million. The court scheduled his arraignment hearing for May 29. District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the death of Dr. Cameisha Clark and the injury of her assistant as a tragedy for both the school and their families.
“Our hearts go out to the family and this should never have happened. It’s a terrible instance of workplace violence. It’s a tragedy for the school, for the family. Two wonderful people so viciously harmed,” Hochman said.
Dr. Clark’s Family Speaks Out While Mourning Her Loss
Dr. Cameisha Clark’s family shared their grief in an exclusive statement to NBC4 Los Angeles. They expressed deep devastation over her death and remembered her for her strong work ethic and deep love for her job.
“Cameisha’s life was taken from us far too soon, in an act of senseless violence that no woman should ever have to endure. She was an amazing person who didn’t deserve this. She was living her best life, doing the work she loved. Cameisha was the most compassionate, loving, and fiercely loyal person. She was a radiant, joyful, driven, and compassionate woman who touched countless lives across the country from her hometown of Atlanta, Ga. to L.A.,” Clark’s family said in a statement to NBC4LosAngeles.
