When it Comes to Music Festivals, Bigger is Not Always Better

Shanghai Doom is sonically exploring the tension of a world on edge: volatile, unstable, and fully charged.

Their new album, Danger Console, features eleven experimental tracks “based around the theme of a power overload,” the artists stated in a press release shared with EDM.com.

Traversing a variety of sounds and tempos, the album delivers gritty, ominous energy grounded in low-end pressure. Some of the highlights include “Massive,” which flexes jagged textures that are both beautiful and brutal in equal measure. “Berserkers” is designed to disorient, channeling a heavy dose of primal tension. Elsewhere on the album, razor-sharp intensity unfolds in “Mad Ting,” which hits like a glitch in reality.

“It’s a lot of work, but the best part about an album is being able to take the listener on a journey and showcase a variety of styles,” says the duo in an exclusive conversation with EDM.com. “Originally, it was a couple of separate EPs, and we noticed a common theme between the songs, so we began formulating an album around it.”

“We, as a group, have a few different sound design zones and musical styles we tap into, so it was fun to see common themes emerge between the tracks. I love how this album plays out to start to finish, and the overarching story and chaos is always my favorite stuff to play out live.”

Shanghai Doom kicked off their Danger Console tour at Beyond Wonderland last month. They’ll make stops in Indianapolis, Brooklyn, Charleston, and more this summer.
