Stephen Colbert Responds to Trump With Signature Sass and One Bold Line

Whew! Stephen Colbert gave Donald Trump a taste of his own medicine and did it live and unfiltered. Following CBS’s announcement that The Late Show will end in 2025, Trump wasted no time doing what he does best… gloating online.

As we previously reported, in a now-viral Truth Social post, the former president wrote: “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!”

But best believe Colbert clapped back during his Monday night monologue with no hesitation and zero filter. After reading the quote, Colbert turned to the camera, raised an eyebrow, and said:

“Go fk yourself.”

Just like that. No censorship. No holding back. Just Colbert doing what he’s done best for years — calling out Trump with razor-sharp sarcasm and surgical shade.

Colbert Goes In: “I’m the Martyr. There’s Only Room for One on This Cross”

Colbert didn’t stop with the iconic one-liner. He leaned in and took Trump’s entire post apart — piece by petty piece. Referring to Trump’s dig at Jimmy Kimmel possibly being next on the chopping block, Colbert said:

“Nope, no, no. Absolutely not. Kimmel, I am the martyr. There’s only room for one on this cross. And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!”

Now that’s how you own your moment.

And just when you thought he might soften the blow, Colbert joked about cancel culture with a smirk:

“Folks, I’m gonna go ahead and say it: Cancel culture has gone too far. Over the weekend, it sunk in that they’re killing off our show. But they made one mistake: They left me alive.”

He continued,

“For the next 10 months, the gloves are off. I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump…”

Wait for it…

“I don’t care for him. Doesn’t have the skillset to be president. Not a good fit, that’s all.”

If you didn’t catch that deadpan comedic jab, you need to run it back.

Colbert’s History of Trump Takedowns: A Longtime Rivalry Hits a New Level

This isn’t Colbert’s first time taking aim at Trump — far from it. Their beef has been simmering since The Late Show first launched with Colbert at the helm. From hilarious skits to satirical jabs, he’s turned mocking Trump into high-level comedic art.

Back in 2017, Colbert made headlines after saying Trump’s mouth was only good for being “Vladimir Putin’s c**k holster” — a line that had the FCC looking sideways but left viewers cracking up.

But now that the show is on its last leg, Colbert is making it clear: he’s not leaving quietly. In fact, he might be even more unleashed in these final episodes.

Let’s not forget, The Late Show dominated late-night ratings for years, often outperforming Fallon and Kimmel. While CBS cited a “creative transition,” some fans online are calling BS and suspect political pressure could be part of the reason.

Either way, with 10 months of airtime left, one thing’s for sure — Trump might want to brace himself.
