Congratulations! Terence Crawford makes boxing history as he beat Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to become the Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion. This means the boxer has become the first man to win undisputed titles in three weight divisions.

Crawford, 37, jumped up two weight categories to make history. He’s already nabbed the undisputed titles at super lightweight and welterweight, and now super middleweight. He has now fought in five total weight classes.

Late Saturday night (September 13), Crawford took to the ring at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. He faced off with Canelo Alvarez, 35, who is a world champion in four divisions. However, he fell to 63-3-2 after last night’s fight in front of a crowd of 70,482.

One judge scored the match at 116-112 for Crawford and two others saw it at 115-113 for him. Several celebrities watched ringside and roared in unison with those at home when Crawford was named winner.

Speaking on his big win, Crawford said:

“For sure this is definitely a signature win. Moving up two weight classes, being the B-side, fighting a guy that’s been undefeated in the division, undisputed. My other undisputed runs I had titles, I was coming in as a champion as well. But this one I was coming in as an underdog, no championship belts and I felt like everything was on the line.”

Crawford also spoke highly of his opponent Alvarez and said:

“Canelo is a great champion. And he fought like a champion today. I think I was the better man today. I was stronger, I punched harder. It means a lot to me. You know anybody can be a nobody, and that’s all they say I’ve been fighting is nobodies. So what can they say now?”

Meanwhile, after the fight, Alvarez had this to say, “A defeat does not define me. If we do it again, it will be great.” He added, “I did what I was supposed to do, I tried every way very hard. I tried my best but I didn’t figure it out. I hit Crawford, but not clean shots with all my power. He’s a good fighter, knows how to move.”

Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford also both mentioned another undisputed world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. When asked if he could compare and contrast the fight between himself and Crawford with his fight against Mayweather Jr., Alvarez said, “I think Crawford is way better than Floyd Mayweather.”

Elsewhere, Crawford was asked about potential comparisons with his legacy against Mayweather’s. When asked how he feels his resume compares to Mayweather’s, Crawford said, “Listen, Floyd was the greatest in his era. I’m greatest in my era. It ain’t no need to compare me to Floyd or Floyd to me.”
