With Peacemaker Season 2 wrapping up on HBO Max, reactions to the finale have sparked heated debate across social media. While some viewers praised its emotional depth and character moments, others criticized the lack of promised cameos and unresolved storylines, dividing the DC fanbase ahead of future DCU projects.

Peacemaker Season 2 finale isn’t loved by all fans

The Peacemaker Season 2 finale, titled “Full Nelson,” premiered on October 10, 2025, on HBO Max. While the episode concluded the multiverse storyline and set up future arcs involving the Checkmate organization and Superman-related plots, it sparked mixed reactions across social media. Several fans expressed disappointment over unmet expectations and the nature of the cliffhanger ending.

One viewer called it “the worst episode” of the series and criticized its hype, saying it offered “none of the big DC stars or surprises” promised by James Gunn. Another described the cliffhanger as frustrating, pointing out that it “won’t get resolved either ever or for almost three years.” A separate comment noted, “Underwhelming… it didn’t explore much of the mystery of the season. It felt like filler.”

Might be the worst episode and the one that was also being OVERHYPED AF by Gunn, total nothing burger, we were told big DC Stars were gonna be in it, big surprises and a direct tie to MOT, none of that happened, this was a 4/10 season at best, episode 6 &7 were the only good imo

What the fuck is this shit!? A cliffhanger that won’t get resolved either ever or for almost 3 fucking years ?

Underwhelming it didn’t explore much of the mystery of the season. It felt like filler.

i want them to kill off Rick flag Sr so badly man I’ve lost all and any interest in the DCU because of Rick flag Sr alone I am not watching a SINGLE DC movie until I get confirmation that Rick flagg Sr is dead

In the finale, Rick Flag Sr. traps Chris Smith (Peacemaker) on an isolated Earth called Salvation to test its ability to imprison metahumans. The episode ends with Chris hearing roars in the wilderness, suggesting prehistoric creatures inhabit the planet. Meanwhile, Emilia Harcourt and Sasha Bordeaux form a new covert group called Checkmate, alongside Adebayo, Vigilante, and others. The storyline references the DC Comics spy organization introduced in Action Comics No. 598 (1988).

so fucking bad that i dead ass wanted to cry when those credits rolled

Some fans responded more positively. One described the finale as “more like an epilogue” and appreciated its emotional beats. Another wrote, “It didn’t need cameos, explosions, a final battle… I’m pretty sure we all finished the episode with a smile.” However, others felt misled by marketing that promised major DC Universe connections.

The final was ep 7, this is more like an Epilogue, and it was pretty nice to see. Even when is not better than the prior season, i liked it and enjoyed every episode a lot.

I did enjoy the episode and there was good acting but I felt as far as a finale goes (especially when we’re not expecting a S3) not a whole lot happened.

HBO Max has not renewed Peacemaker for Season 3, but characters from the series will appear in future DCU stories.
