Aubrey Plaza Makes Surprise Return To ‘SNL’ In ‘Hunting Wives’ Spoof

Aubrey Plaza made a surprise return to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and fans absolutely lost it. The “Parks and Recreation” star popped up in a pre-taped parody sketch alongside former co-star Amy Poehler, turning Netflix’s steamy thriller “The Hunting Wives” into pure comedic gold. The faux trailer opened with an exaggerated voiceover describing “The Hunting Wives” as “the straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama,” before teasing that “millions of Americans tuned in for season one.” The mock introduction set the tone immediately. The over-the-top, melodramatic spoof is exactly the kind of chaos “SNL” fans love to see.

Chloe Fineman took center stage as a wide-eyed newcomer arriving in a small southern town filled with secret-keeping socialites. Amy Poehler, dressed in a plunging green dress as one of the titular “wives,” welcomed her with a perfectly catty line, “Well, look what the cat dragged in.”

From there, things only got more absurd. The women were shown drinking in kitchens, posing dramatically with rifles, and whispering through lip-glossed smirks as fake reviews splashed across the screen, including a hilarious one from PEOPLE magazine that read, “It’s like ‘Call Me By Your Name’ for women who shop at Bass Pro Shop.”

The “SNL” audience erupted when Plaza suddenly appeared midway through the trailer, strutting up to the mimosas-and-murder crew in sunglasses and a California drawl. “Hey, ladies. I’m new here,” she announced.

When Poehler offered her a drink, Plaza replied innocently, “I’ve never made mimosas before,” prompting Fineman’s character to step in seductively, “I’ll show you.”

What followed was a deliberately steamy montage of Fineman guiding Plaza through the champagne pour, joined by the rest of the wives as their hair blew in slow motion and music swelled in the background.

Then came the twist. When one of the women asked if she had a boyfriend, Plaza deadpanned, “I don’t have a boyfriend. I have a girlfriend.” Instantly, the other women jumped back and drew their guns, cutting to the trailer’s punchline tagline, “’The Hunting Wives’ Season Two: Don’t watch it on a plane.”

Following the “SNL” sketch, “The Hunting Wives” star Brittany Snow took to Instagram to share the spoof, and she couldn’t hide her excitement. Captioning the clip, “It’s just us & the beans. My life is made. @nbcsnl,” Snow gushed over seeing her show turned into “SNL” satire.

The post quickly filled with celebrity reactions. Actress Malin Åkerman commented, “The beans!!!” while another fan wrote, “THIS IS EVERYTHING!!!! I COULDN’T STOP LAUGHING OMG. ALSO, THAT AUBREY PLAZA CAMEO IS PURE PERFECTION.” Even “The Hunting Wives” author May Cobb jumped in, echoing the love with, “THIS IS EVERYTHING.”

Malin Åkerman also shared the “SNL” spoof on her own page, calling it “the best thing I’ve ever seen!!! ‘Hunting Wives’ Season 2 premiere (?!). Yessssss!!!!!” Snow jumped into her co-star’s comments with a playful jab of her own, writing, “I’m so glad @nbcsnl got ahold of our deleted scenes.”

The real “Hunting Wives” series, which premiered on Netflix in July, quickly became one of the platform’s top summer thrillers. Based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel, the show dives into the glitzy and dangerous lives of a group of elite Texas socialites whose obsession with guns, gossip, and seduction leads to murder.
