The DC Universe is gearing up for its next big chapter with Man of Tomorrow, and it sounds like Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. will have a major role in shaping the story this time around.

Grillo, who first appeared as the tough-as-nails soldier in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2, recently confirmed that his part in the upcoming sequel is much more significant.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Grillo said, “My character, Rick Flag Sr., is a big part of the sequel’s story, so I’m excited about it.”

So, I guess we’ll be seeing a lot more of the elder Flag in Gunn’s growing DC universe, which is great because I have enjoyed his character.

Back in July, Grillo gave fans a glimpse into what’s coming next for the character, hinting at a look that’s closer to the animated version he voices in Creature Commandos.

During an interview with GQ, he said, “I think the next time, if they don’t fire me, the next time I’m in something, it’s white hair. I was on another show, Tulsa King, and it was literally back-to-back, and during, and so I couldn’t… And people really were not happy about it. They were really mean about my dark hair.”

The sequel, set for release on July 9, 2027, is going to be a major event for DC Studios. Man of Tomorrow will continue the story of David Corenswet’s Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan returning as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Gunn previously teased that the film won’t just focus on Superman’s heroics but will also dive deep into Lex Luthor’s perspective. Gunn said:

“It is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together, to a certain degree, against a much, much bigger threat. And it’s more complicated than that. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex Luthor, sadly.”

With Brainiac confirmed to take center stage as the villain and Rick Flag Sr. stepping into a more prominent role, Man of Tomorrow is sure to give fans a wild good time.
