Prince Harry Defends Royal Status In Tense Interview

Is there still hope for the DC Universe? New reports reveal that Superman is a cash cow, but may not be enough to save Warner Bros. Discovery.

One of the biggest topics of discussion in recent months is how profitable the DC Universe is or will be. It’s certainly understandable given how publicly and loudly Warner Bros. Discovery has been stepping onto the rake of financial ruin these past few years. And while the topic itself is filled with misinformation and biases, one question sits at its core: did Superman make money?

The answer? Kinda, but mostly yes. The latest report from Forbes reveals that Superman did generate a healthy profit for Warner Bros. Discovery, with the freshman outing of the DC Universe raking in nearly $150 million in global profits. This makes Superman an unabashed hint, even in a year of other major successes from Warner Bros. Discovery like Sinners and Weapons.

Warner Bros. Discovery Is Still In The Red

Of course, while the DC Universe may be flying high, it’s not exactly standing on level ground. Another report by Variety reveals that, while projects like Superman did generate some pretty big profits from Warner Bros. Discovery, the company is still firmly planted in the foxhole, having lost over a billion dollars on traditional TV this past year.

Though that itself may sum up the entire discussion around whether or not the DC Universe is profitable. Art, and Hollywood especially, is a complicated game. It’s hard to tell at a glance whether or not individual projects like Superman were a success and whether or not these franchise tentpoles are the path forward for a company like Warner Bros. Discovery. So as fans, it may be best to stop focusing on how the sausage is made and just enjoy the ride for as long as it’s around.

Superman is now streaming on HBO Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
