The next major chapter in James Gunn’s new DC universe just took a big step forward. Fans finally gett their first glimpse of Supergirl, and the brief teaser confirms that a full trailer is only days away.
After Superman launched the reimagined DC world earlier this year and introduced a universe where heroes are already established, excitement has been building for the arrival of Kal-el’s cousin, and this film will have a grittier energy that sets her apart from Big Blue in a pretty intriguing way.
A lot about Supergirl has been kept quiet, but we do know Milly Alcock steps into the role of Kara. This marks the character’s second theatrical appearance since the 1984 Supergirl movie, but became widely known as a misfire.
That earlier version did briefly resurface through CG alongside Christopher Reeve’s Superman in The Flash in 2023. With the slate wiped clean, Kara now enters Gunn’s DC universe from the ground up, ready for a fresh interpretation.
In the newly released footage Kara sits alone at a desolate station that resembles a bus stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere. She wears sunglasses and a trench coat as a ship suddenly descends from the sky and blasts dust everywhere, whipping her hair back.
The teaser also confirms that the full Supergirl trailer arrives this week, and current chatter points to Thursday, December 11. That schedule mirrors how Superman rolled out its first trailer last year, and there is talk this one may screen ahead of Avatar Fire and Ash, which is also expected to debut a trailer for Avengers: Doomsday and offer a fresh look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The upcoming trailer is expected to establish the tone of the movie and fans are hopoing it will give us our first real look at Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. After the previous DC cinematic universe wrapped up, Momoa closed the book on Aquaman and was quickly invited to take on the intergalactic bounty hunter, a character he has long been eager to portray.
Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26, 2026.
