New photos from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are finally giving fans a first look at Krysten Ritter is officially back as Jessica Jones, stepping back into Matt Murdock’s world just as things in New York have gone completely off the rails.

Along with the images comes some new details about where the series is headed, and it sounds like Season 2 is going to push Marvel Television into some heavy, intense territory.

It wasn’t until The Defenders wrapped back in 2017 that Charlie Cox fully clocked how much fans latched onto the chemistry between Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Looking back, Cox admits it wasn’t something they consciously played up at the time.

“Just by the nature of who Jessica is and who Matt is, they both give as much as they get,” the actor tells Entertainment Weekly. “I’m not sure we were aware of it when we were shooting it. So we’ve been really waiting for this opportunity for so long now to put these two on screen together and have more fun with them.”

That opportunity has arrived. Ritter’s sharp-tongued private investigator re-enters Matt’s life in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Season 1 ended with Wilson Fisk consolidating power as New York’s mayor, criminalizing vigilantism and turning Daredevil into a public enemy.

With the city under his thumb, Matt is forced to shift tactics, pulling together allies who can help bring Fisk down from the inside. Jessica Jones, with her strength, instincts, and zero patience for authority, fits right into that plan.

Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum says Jessica’s presence in Season 2 mirrors the impact Jon Bernthal’s Punisher had in season 1. Her role may be tightly guarded, but Cox confirms the dynamic fans remember is intact.

“We both talked about it being important to play some of the hits, as it were, make sure that we have that same dynamic. Tongue in cheek, take the piss out of each other, but also get down to business and make sure that we’re serving the story appropriately.”

If Season 1 tracked Fisk’s climb, the next season focuses on the cost of holding onto power. Some time has passed since the finale, but the city is still effectively locked down.

Winderbaum hints at where things are going, promising “a lot of heavy themes,” and “a lot of dark moments and tragic events.” He adds, “Daredevil is a revolutionary in this season. He’s a rebel, and it’s fun to see him go up against the power of the city.”

Showrunner Dario Scardapane reportedly leaned on the French Revolution as a visual and thematic inspiration during filming, though the uprising doesn’t come easily. Cox describes a suffocating atmosphere where danger feels constant.

“It feels like one misstep and loved ones disappear. You are taken, there’s no way out,” he says. “It’s a very claustrophobic world.”

Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page also has a much larger presence this time around, operating in secret meetings and undercover disguises. Cox couldn’t be happier with where the character lands.

“Her role is the best it’s ever been. She is a badass in season 2. We get to see a side of Karen Page which I think Charlie and also Matt Murdock have always known is beneath that surface.”

Elden Henson also returns as Foggy Nelson, even though the character’s death still hangs heavily over Matt. That loss continues to shape Daredevil’s choices and mindset. As for Frank Castle, his future remains murky. The last time audiences saw the Punisher, he’d escaped Fisk’s hidden prison and vanished.

“The less I say the better,” Winderbaum says. He does confirm, however, “The Punisher TV special really does connect into the time and place that Daredevil: Born Again season 2 takes place.” Bernthal is currently developing a standalone Punisher event for Disney+ with director Reinaldo Marcus Green.

Season 2 also introduces new faces withMatthew Lillard plays Mr. Charles, another figure operating within Fisk’s circle. Cox describes the role as “delicious,” even though their characters don’t share scenes. Lili Taylor joins the cast as New York Governor Marge McCaffrey.

According to Winderbaum, Seasons 1 and 2 are designed as two halves of a larger story, with season 3 already in development.

“It all feels like one story,” he says. “It is one giant, amazing tapestry that Dario is weaving together here in this New York landscape.”

With Jessica Jones back in the mix, the city under siege, and Daredevil pushed into full-on rebellion mode, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is shaping up to be intense, personal, and relentless.

The series returns in March on Disney+, and it sounds like New York is about to get even darker.
