Former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy may have announced her departure from her longtime position, but the veteran producer still wants to continue making films while finding innovative ways to integrate AI. In a recent interview, she opened up about her plans for the future, stating that she would like to explore methods of using “new technology” while developing movies.

During a recent conversation, the ex-Disney executive revealed that she is looking to “get back to a kind of eclectic group of movies” after leaving her Lucasfilm post. Moreover, she would cherish the opportunity to leverage new-age technology in her forthcoming ventures.

“I’m also really interested in the new technology, I have to say,” Kathleen Kennedy told Deadline. She further added, “I am interested in exploring using those tools in responsible ways and working out the complications around trying to figure out what we’re going to do in terms of protecting artists’ rights. That is vitally important. But at the same time, there’s nothing more exciting than having new tools that can expand on what you’re capable of doing in terms of creating visual language around stories.”

Kennedy also explained how she intends to make use of her industry experience as she grapples with the changing dynamics of cinema, including the advent of AI. “I’ve had a unique opportunity to be around a lot of that over the years and witness those changes. I genuinely feel like we’re entering that moment again, where we’re going to see things we’ve never seen before. I just think that’s really exciting,” the veteran producer noted.

Having taken over the reins of Lucasfilm in 2012, Kathleen Kennedy oversaw the release of several financially successful Star Wars projects during her 14-year tenure. In the wake of her departure, Dave Filoni will assume the roles of President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, with Lynwen Brennan stepping in as the studio’s co-president.
