Craig Conover is sharing why he friend-zoned Salley Carson on Wednesday’s episode of Southern Charm.
After seemingly blindsiding Salley, 30, who he’d spent weeks enjoying late-night hot tub sessions with, by informing her that he wasn’t interested in a romance, Craig, 36, suggested that his castmate had portrayed their friendship as something it wasn’t and accused her of failing to “take the hint” as Salley explained why her feelings were so hurt.
“The reality wasn’t there,” Craig began on the January 14 episode of the Southern Charm: After Show as he looked back on an appearance Salley made on Watch What Happens Live last year.
“[She said] we went to dinner when in reality it was my assistant and my little sister, like quasi little sister in New York, and her,” he shared.
Craig also recalled a night in which Salley and Shep Rose, 45, were at his home, stating that while Salley had “made it clear that she wanted to stay,” he asked her and Shep to “Uber home.”
“I don’t like hurting people’s feelings, and I thought I had made it clear,” he insisted. “[But] I don’t think she wanted to take the hint … I really thought we were just best girl friend and guy friend … And Salley just wanted it to be something that it wasn’t.”
As for the time they spent together, Craig said he’s simply someone who does “everything 100 percent.”
“When I hang out with someone, I don’t know how to, like, do it half-a**,” he reasoned. “Like, I’m gonna take you to my favorite spots and do things that are, like, romantic, because that’s just who I am … Everyone’s assuming, like, every guy wants to hook up with every girl. It’s weird. Like, I’m very selective with people, and I don’t just hook up with them. I don’t use it as an escape from my reality.”
Meanwhile, according to Salley, it was what Craig was saying to her that hurt the most.
“My feelings were hurt more so because he’s sitting there, and he’s telling me, like, ‘Look, you’re gonna be a great mother; you’re gonna be a great wife.’ He’s telling me all the amazing things about me. And then he’s like, ‘But not for me,’” she shared.
Although Craig claimed he was clear in his stance, Salley said she didn’t think he was into her for no reason.
“I don’t think I was just, like, pulling it out of my a**,” she stated. “We’re hanging out all the time, we’re talking all the time, and I’m at his house until 5 a.m. all the time. And then he’s FaceTiming me all night. We had a lot of chemistry, and like, he’s sitting there, and he’s telling me in the hot tub, we had chemistry.”
On Wednesday’s episode, as Salley ventured out to buy chickens with Craig in tow, she admitted she was “catching some feelings” for him and spoke of a potential romance.
“I don’t see it. We’re just friends,” was his response.
He then accused Salley of “reading into our interactions in a fantasy way” in a confessional as she insisted he’d been “hitting on [her] for three weeks.”
“I’m not making it up in my head. I’m not f*cking delusional,” she declared.
