A restaurant employee has passed away after sustaining severe burn injuries during a disturbing incident at an Olive Garden location in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. According to the Daily Star, the incident occurred last Friday while the employee was working as a cook inside the restaurant. Investigators said the man allegedly attempted to harm himself by shoving his head into a deep fryer, resulting in catastrophic injuries.
The employee was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Following the incident, the restaurant closed for several days.
Authorities Describe Incident as Suicide Attempt
Officials with the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the incident is being treated as a suicide attempt, though they declined to release additional details. Trooper Laurent Lesher explained that investigators chose not to disclose further information out of respect for the individual and his family, noting that releasing more details could potentially identify the victim.
Authorities have not released the employee’s name, age, or length of employment.
Coworker Injured While Trying to Help
During the incident, a female employee sustained minor burn injuries after she and a customer attempted to intervene and stop the man from causing further harm to himself.
Both individuals were treated for their injuries. Officials said their actions were intended to help, though the situation escalated rapidly.
