Bad Bunny made history yet again as the first Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner to perform entirely in Spanish tonight (Feb. 8) at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, welcoming surprise guests Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin for an homage to the sounds and sights of his native Puerto Rico.

The eight-song performance began in a sugarcane field as Bunny emerged with “Tití me preguntó,” as the scene pulled back to reveal a table of older men playing dominos. Throughout, Bunny surveyed the proceedings from the roof of a pink and orange house, which he eventually fell through and then emerged onto the playing field loaded with dancers that included Cardi B, Karol G and actors Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal.

He sang a few lines of Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina” atop an old white pickup tuck before moving yet again through a corridor lined with string players in black tie. Clad in an elegant powder blue dress, Gaga was then revealed as part of a set modeled on a Puerto Rican wedding, replete with the very real married couple slicing a piece of wedding cake and Bunny waking up children who’d fallen asleep on chairs. Gaga sang her hit “Die With a Smile” and then danced joyously with Bunny and the wedding party guests.

Later, Bunny swigged something from a shot glass, handed his Grammy to a little boy and made way for Martin, who sang the “LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii” introduction to “El apagón” moments before a mock power outage on the field. The scene cut to Bunny reappearing in the sugarcane field underneath the electrical towers, one of which he then scaled.

The performance wound down with “DtMF,” as the artist spiked the football he’d been carrying on and off throughout the performance and then bounded into the locker room flanked by people holding the flags of dozens of countries. “God bless America,” he proclaimed near the finale.

Bunny also played portions of “Yo perreo sola,” “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” and “NUEVAYoL,” the latter two of which steam from the massive album Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Last weekend, it became the first non-English LP to win Album of the Year at the Grammys.

“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be easy,” Bunny said earlier in the week when asked about the show’s contents. “I know that I told them that they had four months to learn Spanish [but] hey don’t even have to learn Spanish. It’s better if they learn to dance. There’s no better dance than the one that comes from the heart. That’s the only thing they need to worry about and enjoy.”

Bad Bunny will resume his tour in support of Debí Tirar Más Fotos Feb. 13 in Buenos Aires. His 2025 residency in Puerto Rico brought in an estimated $200 million for the local economy.
