Chet Hanks, the son of actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, says he’s “literally stuck” in Medellín, Colombia and can’t get back into the United States after traveling with his Greek passport.

On Friday (February 27), Chet took to his Instagram, asking his followers if they were ready for a “Story Time.” Usually, these trends recall an incident that happened some time ago. However, for Chet, he’s still very much living through his “Story Time.”
With a caption that read, “Free me,” Chet said in his video that he initially left the U.S. for Puerto Rico. He said last week, he flew to the U.S. Territory to celebrate his friend Max’s birthday. After partying in PR, he decided to fly 2-3 hours to Medellín, Colombia, where his friend Taylor lives.
“So, y’all ready for a story time? So, I go to Puerto Rico last week for my homie Max’s birthday. Have a good time. Then, I’m in Puerto Rico and we’re all about to leave. I go, ‘Hmm, I’m only, you know, two-three hours away from Medellín. Why don’t I go pull up on my homie Taylor, who lives in Medellín? F**k it.’”

Chet Hanks Says He’s Stuck In Medellín, Colombia Due To Passport Issues
Chet continued and said his smart and impulsive idea to country-hop turned into his worst nightmare. He said all of his troubles are over his almost-expired United States passport. Since, he didn’t have time to renew it before his PR trip, he took his Greek passport. He explained that he has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Greece. He said:
“Yeah, sounds good, right? Well, check this out. I’m traveling with my Greek passport because I’m a dual citizen. Reason I didn’t use my American passport is because it’s about to expire. And sometimes they don’t let you in the country, even if it hasn’t expired, but it’s about to expire. So, I take my Greek passport.”
However, upon trying to return back to the U.S. from Colombia, his Greek passport wasn’t enough to check-in at the airport. He said Colombian airport officials told him he needed a green card in order to regain entry into his homeland: the United States of America. Officials gave him the option of traveling from Medellín to Bogotá and rectifying his issues with the U.S. Embassy there. However, Chet said he wasn’t trying to do all of that. He continued:
“I’m supposed to leave today. I go to the airport to check into my flight — three hours early, ‘cause it’s an international flight. They tell me that if I’m using a foreign passport, I need a green card to get back into America. I don’t have a green card because I’m an American citizen. I don’t have my American passport with me.
So, I’m literally stuck in Columbia. I’m stuck in Medellín. Granted, there’s worse places to be stuck, but I literally have no f**king idea what I’m going to do. And the only embassy to get this sh*t settled is in Bogotá. I don’t want to go to Bogotá. So, yeah, free me. You know what I’m saying? Free me.”
