Ashley Iaconetti Denies Kelsey Swanson’s Ignoring Claims

“A Flag in the Mud” is Will Trent at its most unhinged, ambitious, and unexpectedly tender. The episode goes full beast mode, delivering a hospital set pressure cooker, a super strength villain named Osiris (Charles Huggins II), and a WWF tag team elevator brawl so wild it deserves its own Emmy category.

Set to the icon “I’m Shipping up to Boston” by the Dropkick Murphys, the episode’s centerpiece is three men and a gurney showdown inside an elevator. Special Agent Will Trent (Ramon Rodriguez) and Detective Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin)—who have been circling each other all season with a mix of rivalry, respect, and “are we doing this?” energy—team up to take down Osiris, the week’s Big Bad.

Osiris isn’t just violent; he’s superhumanly strong. The fight is claustrophobic, brutal, and weirdly funny in that “I can’t believe they’re doing this on network TV” way. Even Dr. Seth McDale (Scott Foley) jumps in, only to get stabbed for his trouble. The stakes are high: Osiris already murdered one young man and nearly killed Kevin Cane (De’Variyay Harris), and he’s clearly come back to finish the job.

The Waiting Room Hostage Crisis

Kevin’s near death triggers the episode’s second major storyline: his mother, Nakia Cane (Tamala Renee Jones) an addicted veteran pushed past her breaking point, holds an entire hospital waiting room at gunpoint until she knows her son will live.

And because the writers love chaos, half the main cast is already in that waiting room:

• Nico, who sliced her arm open on a mandolin.

• Will, who brought Nico in.

• Angie (Erika Christensen), there for a well-baby visit.

• Dr. Seth, who works at the hospital.

Plus, a supporting cast straight out of a fever dream: six children, a woman who won’t stop crying, and two Revolutionary War reenactors who can’t separate cosplay from reality.

And in the most inspired moment of historical nonsense, these two end up firing an antique gun into a wall. The reenactors were not throwing away their shot. The shot is ridiculous, dangerous, and somehow plot critical, revealing that Osiris is in the elevator with Will, Seth, and Kevin.

SWAT, Feelings, and the Almost-Confession

Outside, Faith (Iantha Richardson), Michael, and Franklin (Kevin Daniels) are coordinating with SWAT. When the antique gunshot rings out, SWAT prepares to breach. And right before they go into the hospital, Michael turns to Faith and says he has something to tell her.

Like… sir. Now?

The fandom’s collective heart stopped. Was he about to confess something real? Something romantic? Something messy? The writers knew what they were doing.

After the dust settles, Faith circles back.

“What did you want to say?”

Michael’s answer?

Franklin drank her orange juice.

Sure, Jan.

But then comes the hug. The warmth. The promise of dinner. Faith and Michael (and Franklin) sharing “best friend” goals with a side of “slow burn if the writers ever decide to go there.”

The Heartfelt Endings

As the episode ends, it doesn’t let up emotionally. Will throws out the cursed mandolin and tells Nico he loves her. Seth and Angie have “The Talk”, acknowledging the fear that comes with loving a cop—especially after Seth was stabbed trying to help. Seth reassures Angie that he is OK. Everyone survives, but no one walks away unchanged.

Adelaide Calls

Just when you think the episode is done, the show drops a final grenade. Adelaide calls.

Will asks, “Where’s Antonio?”

She scolds him for asking the wrong question.

“What do you want?” he counters.

She ignores it, reminiscing about Puerto Rico.

He refuses to play along.

She tells him not to worry—she’s coming to him.

And suddenly the season’s long game snaps into focus.

So, What Happens Next?

Readers, what does Adelaide want? What role will the mysterious Commander play? How deep does her Ulster imitator network go?

Share your theories in the comments. That cliffhanger? Yeah… I’m willing to wait for it.

Score: 10 out 10
