Sony Pictures just pulled back the curtain on the next chapter in the Jumanji saga, and it’s shaping up to be a big, chaotic sendoff for this cast. During CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the studio officially unveiled the title for the upcoming sequel, Jumanji: Open World, along with the first footage and a few story details that hint at a much larger, reality-bending adventure.

This marks the fourth entry in the franchise and the third led by Dwayne Johnson, and it’s been talked about for a while as the final ride for this group of characters. Based on what we were shown, they’re going out on another fun adventure.

The footage kicks off with a simple but eerie setup as the characters inspect an old video game console. That calm moment doesn’t last long as reality starts to glitch and twist around them.

Things escalate quickly when Danny DeVito’s character pulls everyone together at a diner, setting the stage for another round inside the game… except this time, the game doesn’t stay contained.

One of the more fun moments features Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone suddenly speaking with a Spanish accent, which leads to a ridiculous back-and-forth with Kevin Hart that leans hard into the franchise’s body-swap comedy roots. It’s weird in the best way and totally in line with what fans expect.

The story centers on the characters being stuck in a kind of “demo mode,” which throws them into a fractured version of the game. Karen Gillan and Jack Black are back in action, and as they reconnect with the familiar Jumanji tour guide, things spiral fast. The jungle doesn’t just stay in the game anymore. It spills out into the real world.

That means massive creatures tearing through city streets, including giant lizards and rhinos, while Bravestone struggles with something as basic as driving on a highway.

The “open world” concept isn’t just a title. It’s literal. The environments blend together, with avatars racing between the jungle and reality as everything collides.

There’s also a deeper layer for longtime fans. Johnson confirmed that every single scene in the movie hides an Easter egg tied to the franchise’s history. One of the most meaningful callbacks connects directly to the original film starring Robin Williams.

“This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started as we film our very last Jumanji.”

That kind of detail adds some heart to all the chaos, reminding fans where this story began.

Alongside the returning cast, the film also brings in Nick Jonas, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, and Rhys Darby, with newcomers Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes joining the ensemble.

Jumanji: Open World is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, positioning it as a major holiday blockbuster.
