EXCLUSIVE: Matlock‘s upcoming Season 2 finale, airing April 23 at 9 pm on CBS, will feature three actresses who starred in Jane the Virgin. Bridget Regan will join the previously announced Gina Rodriguez and Justina Machado. The trio will reunite with Matlock and Jane the Virgin executive producer/showrunner, Jennie Snyder Urman, who brought them all together.
Season 2 also featured appearances by JTV alumni Yael Grobglas and Yara Martinez.
Regan will play Ada Marcia, and Rodriguez will play Lida Gutierrez. Details regarding their characters are under wraps. Machado returns as the feisty Eva, Howard “Senior” Markston’s (Beau Bridges) ex-wife.
Matlock stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the work force at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice. Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm (Beau Bridges), is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills.
The Wellbrexa case that has spanned two seasons will conclude in the Season 2 finale. It is as yet unknown what direction the story will take in Season 3, which will return midseason.
“It’s going to end at the end of the season. We have a great ending and the launch for the next season. There’s a different energy coming in,” Snyder Urman told Deadline in December.
Urman executive produces the CBS Studios-produced series alongside Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, Kat Coiro, and Bates. Coiro directed the two-episode Season 2 finale.
Regan can currently be seen in ABC’s The Rookie and 9-1-1, as well as in the Amazon/MGM feature Sarah’s Oil. Previously, she starred in Paramount’s limited drama series Paradise Lost as well as the Golden Globe-nominated series Jane the Virgin. Additional TV credits include roles on Marvel’s Agent Carter, USA’S White Collar, and TNT’s hit action drama series The Last Ship. Her film credits include John Wick opposite Keanu Reeves and Devil’s Gate opposite Milo Ventimiglia.
