As expected, sibling U.K. electronic music duo Boards of Canada will shake off a 13-year silence with the new album Inferno, which will arrive May 29 through longtime label home Warp Records. A 42-second trailer for the 18-track album can be sampled below.
Over the past two weeks, fans started posting online about mysterious VHS tapes arriving in the mail, reportedly sent out by Warp. They contained no discernible music or explanations, but fueled a further breadcrumb trail that included posters in Tokyo, London, New York and Los Angeles. Then, Boards of Canada issued the three-minute piece of music “Tape 05,” its first since 2013’s Tomorrow’s Harvest, although no song by that name appears on the Inferno track list.
Tomorrow’s Harvest debuted at a career-best No. 7 on the Official U.K. Albums chart and No. 13 on the Billboard 200. Boards of Canada have not played live since 2002 and have only performed in public a handful of times across their entire 40-year career.
Here is the track list for Inferno:
“Introit”“Prophecy at 1420 MHz”“Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan”“Age of Capricorn”“Father and Son”“Somewhere Right Now in the Future”“Naraka”“Acts of Magic”“Memory Death”“The Word Becomes Flesh”“Into the Magic Land”“Blood In The Labyrinth”“Deep Time”“All Reason Departs”“Arena Americanada”“The Process”“You Retreat in Time and Space”“I Saw Through Platonia”
