An 18-year-old college freshman says she was uncomfortable during an Uber ride in Atlanta after the driver allegedly played an explicit podcast while transporting her and two friends.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the students had just completed a college tour at Georgia State University on Monday and called an Uber to leave the area. After entering the vehicle, the driver reportedly began playing a podcast that described various sexual acts. The student recorded audio from the ride and sent it to her mother.
Mother Reacts to Recording
Tasia Mapp, the student’s mother, said she was disturbed after hearing the recording.
“I was just happy that she didn’t say anything because you don’t know what could have come from them speaking up, and god forbid if she was in there by herself,” Mapp told the outlet.
She said she was relieved her daughter did not confront the driver during the ride. The name of the podcast has not been publicly identified.
Uber Responds
Uber released a statement confirming that it has taken action regarding the driver’s behavior. The company did not specify what disciplinary steps were implemented.
The audio recording from the ride was later shared on social media to raise awareness about the incident. At this time, no additional details have been released about whether the driver remains active on the platform.
