Police in Arizona are addressing the discovery of human remains located 7 miles from the home of Nancy Guthrie — the mother of TODAYanchor Savannah Guthrie.

The discovery arrives as investigators continue searching for Savannah’s mother, who has been missing since January 31. Nancy is believed to have been kidnapped from her home by a masked man who was captured on surveillance footage outside her from door in the early hours of February 1.
Previously, investigators said they found Nancy’s blood outside her home. They also said they found “mixed DNA,” which investigators are still testing in hopes of identifying a suspect in the 84-year-old’s disappearance.

Tuscon Police Find Human Bone 7 Miles From Nancy Guthrie’s Home
While the investigation continues, Beau Wilson, a spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department, said investigators found a human bone in a wash in the Catalina Foothills. On Thursday (May 7), police received a call around 9 a.m. The alert prompted a heavy response from dozens of officers, crime scene investigators, and members of the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The bone was located at North Craycroft Road and East River Road — about 7 miles from Nancy’s home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood. Specifically, the wash sat behind an apartment complex and near a popular bike and walking trail.

The police spokesperson continued to share details about the probe into the discovery of the human remains. They described the finding as a “prehistoric anthropological investigation.” Essentially, the discovery was not criminal in nature. Additionally, it is unrelated to the Nancy Guthrie case. Police said, “We do not have any reason to believe right now that this is a criminal investigation.”
Tuscon Polic continued to reveal that the University of Arizona Department of Anthropology and the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner assisted in the investigation. The case is also being led by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.
