A former Texas police officer is now facing serious legal trouble after disturbing body camera footage sparked outrage across social media and beyond. According to reports, former Wichita Falls police officer Daniel Wilson has officially been indicted in connection to the arrest of Victoria Lang, a Black autistic college student whose encounter with police quickly turned violent inside a McDonald’s restroom.

For many people watching the footage online, the video was hard to stomach. The incident raised major questions about police training, excessive force, and how officers interact with vulnerable people during tense moments. Meanwhile, community advocates continue calling for accountability and meaningful reform.

Additionally, according to reports obtained by News 6, investigators determined Wilson used “inappropriate force, carry methods, and body positioning” during the arrest. His actions were ultimately described as “excessive,” which later contributed to disciplinary action and now criminal proceedings.

Who Is Victoria Lang And What Happened Inside The McDonald’s?

Reports indicate that Victoria Lang was just 19 years old at the time of the incident. She had reportedly just arrived in Wichita Falls in 2025 to begin college. However, things immediately became stressful after she learned that her dorm room was not available yet.

According to reports, Lang then went to a local McDonald’s so she could freshen up, change clothes, and regroup while waiting for housing arrangements to get sorted out. Unfortunately, what should have been a normal moment turned into a life-changing situation.Eventually, a McDonald’s manager reportedly called 911 after believing Lang had been in the restroom too long. Reports say the manager wrongly assumed she was homeless. That misunderstanding quickly escalated once officers arrived on the scene.

Body camera footage released on May 6 reportedly shows Lang inside the restroom fixing her hair while officers questioned her. Police allegedly asked for her name and birth date, but Lang declined to provide the information. Then, within moments, the interaction reportedly became aggressive. People online immediately reacted after watching the footage because many believed the officers escalated the situation far too quickly. Others pointed out that Lang appeared confused and overwhelmed rather than dangerous. Since the video surfaced, supporters have argued that more patience and compassion could have prevented the entire situation from spiraling out of control.

For Black communities especially, the story hit a nerve. Many people expressed frustration over how often routine encounters involving Black individuals become unnecessarily physical. Others also highlighted how autistic people can react differently during stressful interactions and may require specialized de-escalation approaches.

The footage has now become part of a broader national conversation about race, mental health awareness, and law enforcement accountability. Sadly, another young Black woman’s moment of vulnerability became public trauma. And once again, social media became the courtroom before the courtroom.

Former Wichita Falls Police Officer Daniel Wilson Fired After Internal Investigation

Following public backlash and growing scrutiny surrounding the arrest, officials reportedly launched an internal review into the officers’ conduct. That investigation later resulted in Daniel Wilson being fired from the Wichita Falls Police Department.

Meanwhile, another officer involved in the incident, Douglas Gulley, reportedly resigned from the department altogether. The disciplinary actions came as city leaders faced increasing pressure from activists, residents, and community organizations demanding transparency.

According to reports, local officials acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and announced additional training measures for officers moving forward. Those improvements reportedly include expanded de-escalation training, crisis response education, and revised arrest techniques.

Community advocates pushed heavily for the body camera footage to be released publicly. Many believed transparency was necessary in order for the community to fully understand what happened during Lang’s arrest. Once the footage became public, outrage spread quickly online. Critics argued that the situation reflected larger systemic problems inside law enforcement culture. Specifically, many questioned why officers allegedly responded with force instead of empathy toward a young Black autistic student who appeared distressed and displaced.

Cases like this continue to fuel conversations around whether police officers are properly trained to recognize developmental disabilities or mental health crises. Supporters of reform argue that encounters involving vulnerable individuals should prioritize safety, communication, and patience before physical force is ever used.
