Welp, it looks like the “Free Speech” defense just hit a $1 million brick wall… Dalton Eatherly, the 28-year-old livestreamer known to the internet as “Chud the Builder,” is finding out that his BS antics on camera has very real-world consequences.

After a chaotic shooting outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee, earlier this month, a judge has officially put a leash on Chud’s attempt to use internet clout to buy his freedom.
Yesterday, Judge H. Reid Poland III set a staggering $1 million bond for Eatherly, who faces charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. And guess what? the judge basically told Chud he can’t use his fans’ “donations” to skip out of jail.
While Chud’s loyal following managed to stack over $150,000 on GiveSendGo in just a few days, prosecutors filed for a “source hearing” to make sure the money being used for bail isn’t coming from objectionable or illegal activities, especially since Chud has been profiting off of livestreamed racial harassment and his own personal “meme coin.”
The court essentially ruled that if your business model is based on inciting violence and harassment, you can’t use the profits from that hustle to pay your way out of a shooting charge.Hmmm.
As we previously reported, the incident went down on May 13, 2026, right outside the courthouse where Eatherly was supposed to be dealing with a debt case. Chud was reportedly “IRL streaming” when he got into a verbal beef with a Black man, Joshua Fox.
According to witnesses and footage, the verbal sparring turned physical, and Chud, who is known for open carrying while berating people for views, pulled a pistol. Multiple shots were fired, leaving Fox in emergency surgery and Chud himself injured. While Chud’s fans are screaming “Stand Your Ground,” legal experts say that defense is a reach when you’re the one who poked the bear for clicks.
Even if Chud finds a way to scrape up $1 million without using his hate-fund, the judge made it clear that life on the outside won’t be a movie.
He’ll be rocking a GPS ankle monitor twenty-four-seven, faces an absolute ban on social media posting about the case, must surrender all firearms immediately, and is banned from talking to the media or clout-chasing on podcasts.
Mr. Chud remains in custody for now.
