Former President Donald Trump recently took aim at George Clooney in response to an op-ed published by the actor in The New York Times.
As we previously reported, in the op-ed, Clooney explained why he believes President Joe Biden should not seek reelection. Although he praised Biden for defeating Trump in the 2020 election and credited him with saving democracy, he shared his concerns about Biden’s decline and performance during a recent fundraiser. He said,
“I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals,” he wrote. “In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced. But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can,” Clooney continued. “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe “big F-ing deal” Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”
Clooney continued: “Our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw,” speaking about the debate. “This is about age. Nothing more,” he continued. “We are not going to win in November with this president.” Now this prompted Trump to unleash a scathing attack on the actor, questioning his credibility and urging him to return to his television career instead of dipping his nose into politics. Taking to his proprietary social media platform, Truth Social, Trump referred to Clooney as a “fake movie actor” and a “rat” for aligning himself with Biden and criticizing Trump’s potential reelection bid.
“So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything? He uses the Democrat ‘talking point’ that Biden, the WORST President in the history of the United States, has ‘saved our Democracy,’” Trump stated.
Despite all the online chatter, Biden is not letting that destruct him or scare him out of the race. He recently made it clear that he’s “firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.
I have had extensive conversations with the leadership of the party, elected officials, rank and file members, and most importantly, Democratic voters over these past 10 days or so. I have heard the concerns that people have – their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them. Believe me, I know better than anyone the responsibility and the burden the nominee of our party carries. I carried it in 2020 when the fate of our nation was at stake.
I’ve seen from so many voters and grassroots supporters even in the hardest of weeks.
I can respond to all this by saying clearly and unequivocally: I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.”
