Kate Beckinsale Lost ‘A Lot Of Weight From Stress And Grief’
“I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly and then I was in the hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my esophagus which made me vomit copious amounts of blood,” Beckinsale posted, per Variety. “I found eating very hard.”
She added that she had “just worked very very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of the death of my father.”
The actress was just five years old when her father, Richard, died of a heart attack in 1979. She also lost her stepdad, Roy Battersby, in January after he suffered “a massive stroke” while battling two forms of cancer.

In recent months, Beckinsale has been focused on family, bringing her mother and late stepmother from the U.K. to stay with her in Los Angeles. “Kate has been caring for her parents, who both have serious illnesses, for most of the year,” a source told DailyMail late last year. “She brought them to her home in LA and has made looking after them her number one priority.”

“Happy birthday and UK Mother’s Day this last week to my incredible mother. Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s (expletive) and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t,” she wrote at the time. “And for looking after our dogs when we can’t and lead us to remember happy things when we can’t. And turn up when we are sick and sit with us. And send balloons and check in and pull us out of wells with love.”
