Connections Help, Hints & Clues for Today, October 4

Godzilla Minus One is back in the news because of Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, and the film is being re-released in theaters with some new footage.

Writer and director Takashi Yamazaki recently talked about the film at New York Comic-Con and revealed that he initially planned to kill off one of the main characters in the story.

When asked about the ending of the film, which saw Koichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) reuniting with an injured Noriko Oishi (Minami Hamabe), Yamazaki revealed that the first draft of the film saw Noriko dying.

He explained that he changed that later because he felt that Shikishima needed a win after everything all the insanity and craziness that he endured. He said: “If he came home and she [wasn’t there], that would be tragic.”

Yamazaki made the right choice! It was great to see that Noriko survived. When watching the film, after she was blown away during Godzilla’s attack on the city, I honestly didn’t think we’d see her again.

It’s explained that when “they were filming the scene where Godzilla attacked her, they gave Hamabe makeup that could have CG overlayed on it to show injuries from the attack, if they chose to keep her alive. They eventually did, and Yamazaki was ultimately satisfied with Noriko’s fate.”
