Why Denzel Washington Movie Took 35 Years To Make

Two-time Academy Award winning actress Renée Zellweger is best known for her starring roles in movies like Jerry Maguire, the Bridget Jones’s Diary franchise, Chicago, Cold Mountain, Cinderella Man, and Judy, as well as a handful of animated features and TV series.

For a while there, Zellweger was in several big name projects a year, and was one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars. Then she took a break.

During a recent interview with her longtime Bridget Jones co-star Hugh Grant for British Vogue, he asked why she took a six-year acting break from 2010 to 2016, and Zellweger answered:

“Because I needed to. I was sick of the sound of my own voice. When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”

Zellweger stopped being an actor for six years, but she stayed busy as an artist by writing music. She also “studied international law. I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godchildren and driving across the country with the dogs. I got healthy.”

When she finally returned to acting, Zellweger was ready to reprise her iconic Bridget Jones character in 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. Three years later, Zellweger earned some of the best reviews of her career by playing Judy Garland in Judy. The movie earned her a second Oscar and her first in the best actress category.

Zellweger and Grant are back together for the upcoming fourth Bridget Jones movie, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. The sequel is streaming exclusively on Peacock starting February 13th. Universal Pictures is releasing the movie in theaters internationally on February 14th.
