Pierce Brosnan has revealed the inspiration behind Conrad Harrigan’s accent in MobLand, addressing fan criticism ahead of the show’s season finale. The former Bond star explained how a real-life Kerry local played a key role in shaping his character’s voice. Brosnan shared the behind-the-scenes details while promoting the Paramount+ crime drama and reflecting on his transformation for the character, who is supposedly from Kerry, Ireland.

Pierce Brosnan reveals inspiration for Conrad’s accent in MobLand

While speaking with Radio Times, Pierce Brosnan revealed where his accent in MobLand came from. He stated, “My own accent is very soft. Conrad’s accent is a million miles away from me.” Responding to viewers who questioned the authenticity of the accent, he explained the process behind creating it.

Brosnan credited his dialect coach for recommending a specific reference. “I told him that I needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man and I googled the guy and that was it. It was a Kerry accent. And so, I just gave it full tilt,” Brosnan said. The character’s distinct voice was modeled after this unnamed individual from Kerry, Ireland.

The actor also shared his personal connection to the role, stating, “I like him. I love him. I enjoy him. I mean, I don’t want to be that person – he’s a psychopath.” Despite the controversy, Brosnan defended the choices made in developing Conrad’s vocal identity.

MobLand premiered on Paramount+ and became the streamer’s most-watched debut with 2.2 million global viewers on its first day. While the show has not been officially renewed, co-star Tom Hardy has expressed interest in returning. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy said, “The plan is definitely to see more seasons,” suggesting future storylines could explore international crime networks.

MobLand’s finale is scheduled for June 1. Brosnan’s performance as Conrad Harrigan remains a focal point of audience discussion as the first season nears its conclusion.
