The Batman is in good hands! The cinematographer for the film’s sequel has already explored the DC Universe in a trailer for an Arkham VR game.
With The Batman DP Greig Fraser tangled up in the upcoming biopics for The Beatles, the sequel was in need of a new cinematographer. It was recently confirmed that Erik Messerschmidt would be the one to pick up the torch for the DC Universe’s most popular Elseworlds. And while he is an Oscar winning cinematographer, some fans worry that he may not be able to capture the raw action integral to The Batman.
Luckily, it seems that Erik Messerschmidt is no stranger to the DC Universe. Following the announcement that he would be joining the crew of The Batman sequel, fans dug into his past and discovered that he actually helmed a trailer for the Batman: Arkham Shadow VR game. And without spoiling anything, the footage is glorious.

The Look Of The Batman Sequel
Before fans get too excited, it’s not likely that The Batman sequel will look anything like this Arkham trailer. This is because, while a cinematographer like Erik Messerschmidt likely has some away on the visual identity of a movie, the final call ultimately lies with the director. So the film will likely look fairly close to the original.
With The Batman set to film its sequel early next year, it’s likely that Erik Messerschmidt is already deep in discussions with Matt Reeves to establish the film’s visual identity. Locations for the film are already most locked, too, so camera tests for the project will likely be coming down the pipeline sooner rather than later.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe.
