For Allison Williams, her role in Colleen Hoover‘s Regretting You marked an onscreen collaboration a decade in the making.
The Girls alum revealed she “always wanted to work with” onscreen love interest Dave Franco before the Josh Boone-helmed adaptation, which is now available to stream on Paramount+, noting previous attempts to star together in other projects.
“We’ve been cast in a bunch of things that never came to fruition over the last 10 years,” she told People, explaining that they were attached to “movies that almost happened and then fell apart at the last second.”
Williams admitted they had “actually never met” before making the romantic drama based on the 2019 book. “It felt like fate that eventually we would get to work today,” she said.
Regretting You follows Clara (Mckenna Grace) whose world is turned upside down when a fatal accident exposes an affair between her father Chris (Scott Eastwood) and aunt Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald), leaving her mother Morgan (Williams) and uncle Jonah (Franco) to make sense of the betrayal, while an adolescent spark between the pair is reignited.

The last thing Clara expects is love but then Miller (Mason Thames) changes everything. With his quiet strength and steady warmth, he helps her rediscover joy in the middle of the chaos.
