Static Dress have released their latest single, “human props,” marking the start of a new chapter for the band following their recent signing to Sumerian Records, home of Bad Omens, Poppy, and the Smashing Pumpkins.
The single addresses scrolling culture and how art is casually explored via “likes” rather than being truly engaged with. “I feel like nowadays, people tend to overproduce everything,” vocalist Olli Appleyard says exclusively to AP. “We’re at a turning point in music where things are starting to feel more real, more unprocessed.”

Static Dress found inspiration in At the Drive-In’s Relationship of Command and Portishead’s Dummy, as well as discovered that the energy in the film Natural Born Killers was a great visual insight into how they wanted “human props” to sound. “It moves through several different stages and emotions, and that’s something I wanted to translate into the song — letting it change, get more intense, and eventually crash out,” Appleyard says. “Visually, the film peaks and then slows down dramatically, and I wanted to encapsulate that feeling in the music, the lyrics, and the overall structure.”
The video, which was self-directed by the band, features them performing in a large hall while faceless mask-wearing people gawk at a pair of twins, swarming them with cameras as a way to show their admiration for their special qualities.
Static Dress are currently on tour across Europe and the U.K. with Paleface Swiss and Stick To Your Guns. Check out the video for “human props” and their 2026 tour dates below.
