The search for the next James Bond is heating up again, and a new report suggests the pieces might finally be lining up. With a new director, a new creative structure, and Amazon now steering the ship, attention has turned squarely toward who will inherit the tuxedo.
According to a recently update, one young actor is suddenly standing out from the pack. A report from Showbiz411 says that Jacob Elordi is now one of the top contenders being seriously considered to play James Bond.
The outlet claims Elordi has already met with producers as well as director Denis Villeneuve, which is a big step in what has been a very guarded casting process.
Elordi recently picked up an Oscar nomination for his role in Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro, a career milestone that could push him higher on the studio’s shortlist.
Elordi isn’t the only name in the mix. Callum Turner has also been floating near the top of the odds, with betting markets continuing to rank him as a strong possibility to succeed Daniel Craig.
Still, the suggestion that Elordi is already having direct conversations with Villeneuve makes his candidacy feel a bit more tangible than most of the usual speculation.
Details about the new Bond film remain tightly under wraps. What is known is that Villeneuve is set to direct, and the screenplay is being handled by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders. This will also be the first Bond film developed entirely under Amazon’s watch, following the company’s move to take full creative control of the franchise.
That shift came through a new agreement between Amazon and longtime Bond stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The deal establishes a joint venture that will hold the intellectual property rights to the Bond series, with all three parties remaining co-owners. The difference now is that Amazon MGM Studios will have creative control, a responsibility Broccoli and Wilson previously held themselves.
In a statement addressing the change, Wilson explained that he plans to step back to focus on art and charitable efforts, while Broccoli shared that she’s turning her attention to other projects. Both have long been known for their careful guardianship of Bond, which makes this new era one of the most significant shifts in the franchise’s history.
If Jacob Elordi really is at the center of those conversations, it could signal a wild and interesting reinvention of 007 for a new audience.
