Fans of Chicago Med are abuzz with speculation about whether S. Epatha Merkerson’s Sharon Goodwin might be leaving the show. The popular medical drama’s wise Chief of Emergency Medicine has been a cornerstone of the series since its inception. However, recent events have led viewers to question whether her time at Gant Cottage Hospital is coming to an end.
Is S. Epatha Merkerson’s Sharon Goodwin leaving Chicago Med?
Sharon Goodwin, the stalwart anchor of Gaffney, has always had the doctors’ backs – but in the latest Chicago Med drama, it looks like her own career is hanging in the balance.
In Chicago Med’s January 21 episode Frost on Fire, Miranda Lewis, a formidable board member, wielded her influence to secure a coveted nursing spot for her nephew. But Sharon Goodwin stood firm, unmoved by the subtle pressure.
However, tension mounted as Miranda vowed revenge. The stakes escalated dramatically during the latest Spill Your Guts episode when Goodwin headed to Wyoming for a high-stakes meeting.
Merkenson’s character tried to smooth things over with Miranda before the big meeting, hoping to present a united front. Before boarding, Goodwin tried to sync with Miranda on budget cuts, but Miranda’s frosty response made it clear she wasn’t on board.
It turned out Miranda had a hidden agenda. Sharon Goodwin’s own job was on the chopping block, up for discussion in the budget cuts. “I see, I’m the budget cut, aren’t I?” says Goodwin, leaving viewers on edge. “You’re trying to get rid of me.”
As the episode unfolded, S. Epatha Markenson’s Goodwin confronted Miranda on her bizarre behavior on the plane, only to discover she’d been in a minor car crash earlier, triggering severe internal bleeding.
Overriding her anger, Goodwin insisted on assessing Miranda’s condition and found the injury was life-threatening. With Gaffney’s Dr. Naomi Howard advising they were running out of time, she had to perform the surgery either herself, guided remotely by Howard, or risk losing Miranda. However, she needed Miranda’s consent first.
Sharon Goodwin’s extensive experience enabled her to execute the assisted surgery ably. Given her efforts to save Miranda’s life, it seems improbable that Miranda would persist in advocating for Goodwin’s termination.
